MCE students experience art once a week for 45 minutes. Our program guides our students thru the creative process, develops imaginative, analytical, and creative thinking skills while making art in a variety of media. It is our goal for students to become creative thinkers, creative makers and creative responders to the world around them. Students are expected to follow the PRIDE rules while in Art class. Art is a more relaxed, less structured class with students moving around at times, getting materials, washing hands, etc. so adhering to the PRIDE rules is very important for a successful class. Please remember when your child has art scheduled that we use clay, paint, chalk pastels, ink and other “messy” materials so make sure your child dresses appropriately. Or if you want, you can send an apron or old shirt to keep in your child’s room that he/she may bring for messy times in art. Every year in March, we send home Art to Remember packets. This is our art fundraiser whose proceeds we use to pay for all the supplies we use in art class. Your child creates a piece of art that the company (ATR) can make into magnets, t-shirts, notecards, matted prints, coffee cups, and so on. It is a chance for you to preserve their artwork and their years in elementary school in a precious piece of artwork. Look for it.
